Magnus Billing, CEO, Alecta
Alecta manages the occupational pensions of 2.6 million private individuals and 35,000 companies in Sweden. Alecta has SEK 1,231 billion in assets under management and is one of the biggest investors on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Alecta is also one of Sweden’s biggest property owners. As a pension manager, Alecta takes a long-term view and defines sustainability as essential to long-term value creation. Alecta has a limited number of holdings – around 100 in the portfolio – which gives the opportunity to be a significant shareholder, with deep knowledge and the power to influence and support development in a sustainable direction.
Magnus Billing is the CEO of Alecta since 2016 and has been instrumental in forming the sustainability agenda for Alecta’s investment strategy. In 2016 Magnus was appointed to be a member of the European Commission “high-level expert group” on sustainable finance. In January 2018, the group delivered their final recommendations for “a comprehensive EU strategy on sustainable finance as part of the Capital Markets Union”.
