Tailored training for Corporate Governance and Board Work

Tailored training for Corporate Governance and Board Work

Boardman offers company-specific training for developing ownership, board work and collaboration between owners, the board and management (OBM).

The training is designed and organized according to the company’s specific needs and schedules. Tailored training is suitable for the following purposes:

  • In connection with the organizational meeting of the board and the orientation of new board members
  • In connection with the review and analysis of a conducted board assessment
  • To develop collaboration between the board and management
  • To clarify the ownership strategy, board work and role of the owners in the company

The lecturers are selected based on the competencies of Boardman partners and other experts in the network.

The lecturers are top-level specialists in their field with wide experience and know-how in board work. In addition, they have a strong hands-on experience in corporate management, collaboration between management and various boards, and board work in the role of member or chairperson.

Company-specific training is typically conducted as a one-day session, but if necessary it can be shorter (2-7 hours) or longer (2 days or multiple days).

TRAINING FOR ORGANIZATIONAL MEETINGS OF BOARDS

The organizational meeting of the board lays the foundation for effective board work and also serves as an orientation meeting for new board members.

At the same time, it creates rules of engagement for board work and dialogue in the governance chain formed by owners, the general meeting, the board and management.

Members should also be informed about how the company’s internal control system is expected to operate and how risks are monitored.

A well-planned organizational meeting significantly improves the board’s chances of success in its work. When board members understand what is expected of them, their responsibilities and obligations, and how board work should be carried out in their organization, common practices can be established to enhance board work specifically in the best interest of the company.

TRAINING LINKED TO BOARD ASSESSMENTS

Training conducted after a board assessment focuses specifically on the development areas identified in the assessment.

In addition, the training covers various best practices in board work that can be used to develop suitable operating methods for the specific board.

This training helps to ensure that all board members have a clear understanding of the principles of operation and a shared situation assessment regarding specific strategic themes.

Before the training, a Boardman board assessment must be conducted. The board assessment brings structure to the board’s operations and helps to identify possible discussion topics and development needs.

In addition, it is advisable to include group discussion time in the training program to enable the application of the learned concepts directly to the context of the organization in question and to its own practices.

TRAINING FOR CLARIFYING OWNERSHIP STRATEGY AND ROLES WITHIN THE COMPANY

Tailored ownership training can cover themes such as:

  • The different roles of owners
  • Collaboration between owners, the board of directors and management in the decision-making chain
  • The role of owners on the board of directors
  • Aligning the owner’s intentions with the company’s strategy
  • Defining the division of duties between owners, the board of directors and management in the strategic process

In addition, it is advisable to include group discussion time in the training program to enable the application of the learned concepts directly to the context of the organization in question and to its own practices.
