After the training, participants have more knowledge of four different modules:

  • the role of the board and board members in Finnish companies,
  • strategy work,
  • reporting and control, and
  • people related topics, for example, how to select a CEO.

The speakers of the first module were Rajeev Suri, Laura Raitio and Manne Airaksinen

In the first module organized on January 31st, Rajeev Suri, CEO of Inmarsat and ex-CEO of Nokia, Laura Raitio, Chairman of the Board for Boardman, and Manne Airaksinen, Senior Advisor at Roschier, Attorneys Ltd., introduced participants to the day’s topic: the role of the board and board members in Finnish companies.

Rajeev Suri shared his personal experiences of the board work in Finland. He served as a CEO of Nokia between 2014 and 2020, and before that as a CEO of Nokia Siemens Networks.

As a CEO Suri was closely linked to Nokia’s board of directors, and in his speech, he compared Finnish board work against other countries’ board work.

Laura Raitio discussed more closely the role of the board and the members.

Boardman’s program provided practical insight into Nordic corporate governance, culture, board practices and issues such as financial reporting and risk management. Most importantly, it provided the platform for an incredibly valuable professional network which fosters dialogue, learning and growth. I am delighted to have participated in the program and proud to be a Boardman alumni.
